Prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theatre of Russia, People’s Artist of Russia

Yulia Makhalina

Born in Leningrad, she trained under Marina A. Vasilieva at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet.
After graduation the Vaganova Ballet Academy she was accepted into the Kirov (Mariinsky) ballet by attracting the notice of artistic director Oleg Vinogradov.
A member of the Mariinsky Ballet since 1986, she has performed mare than 60 the leading roles.
Yulia Makhalina has also performed as a soloist at the Royal Danish Ballet, Berlin's Deutsche Opera, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and at the Paris Opera, in Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre.
